The principle mission of the Alfred Police Department is to preserve the rights of citizens and reduce fear in the community. This is accomplished through the prevention of crime by the protection of persons and property, and by the maintenance of order in public places. The Alfred Police Department anticipates and responds to events that threaten lives, property, and public order.
	A.E. Crandall Hook and Ladder is an all volunteer company established in 1887. The company provides fire protection (Alfred Fire Department) and emergency medical services (Alfred Ambulance) in the village of Alfred. A.E.Crandall participates in the Allegany County mutual aid plan and also has a dual response agreement with Alfred Station Voluteer Fire Department for service in the Village and Town of Alfred.
